Chill out baby!

“I don’t have enough time for me to even THINK about being joyful.”

Does this describe your life by any chance?

I personally have much to do on my “to do” list as well. As a working mom, it’s a never-ending cycle of scheduling, driving, planning, accommodating, cooking, cleaning, working, shopping (for food & essentials, not the fun stuff!), maintaining my “girlish figure” and the list goes on. I do try, however slight, to find moments in the day that are just for me – moments to catch my breath, appreciate my surroundings and focus on those few moments of calm. One of my favorite children’s books is about a mommy who just wants Five Minutes’ Peace. Can you relate?

Before taking a shower today, I decided this was one of those mornings for me. Tucked inside my closet is a bag of Bath & Body Works treats…yummy and delicious scents of pure heaven that stimulate my senses and nourish my skin. I don’t use them everyday because then they lose their essence of being special, not to mention their price is a bit of a luxury for me right now. My most recent purchase was the Twilight Woods series that I hold near and dear to my heart (for those of you that are familiar with my Twilight obsession you totally understand). With my candle lit, mesh puff all covered in sudsy goodness, followed by the creamy lotion finish, I was ready to take on the day! Simple pleasures rock my world!

What did you do for yourself today? I’d like to offer up a few ideas that take no time at all: A hot cup of your favorite tea in the prettiest tea cup you can find, a quick walk around the block, sending an email to that person “you’ve been meaning to call”, blast that favorite song on your Itunes list and dance, do a quick Karaoke song before heading out the door and work it like Beyonce baby, add fresh berries to your cereal and say “yummmmmm” everytime you take a bite, read two paragraphs from a book you’ve been wanting to read, add a new flavored cream to your coffee and sip slowly, clean ONE window in your house that overlooks something that delights you, pet your dog and watch how its eyes close…savor that moment. These are just a few quick ideas, and I’d love to hear some of your personal favorites too. Sharing ideas is fun. Leave me a comment on this blog or email me at

More importly, though, I’d like for you to DO one of them a couple of times each week. You’re worth it, friend.

  1. LOVE It!! I actually also gave into delicious moments of peace this morning…couldn’t go back to sleep after i moved the 2 boys who don’t belong in my bed back to their own @ 4:30, so I finally got up @ 5, heated the last cup of coffee waiting for me in the pot, and opened a book I wanted to make some time for! Thanks for the suggestions – I think I might take a hot candlelight bath tonight with grateful thoughts for the reminder! 🙂 ❤ K

I woke up this morning fretting about a family issue, and said, Nope!! don’t want to do this! About that time my dog jumped on the bed, licked me, and cuddled up on my chest and went back to sleep. So I laid there in my warm bed, all by myself (no children crowding me), with my sleeping dog curled up on my chest, smiling because I didn’t have to get up until I wanted to! Then I poured that first glorious cup of coffee and opened the blinds to let the sunshine in. There sitting on a tree in my patio was a beautiful, multi-colored, chubby hummingbird who sits there quite often. I just stared at the fascinating little creature for a moment. There was no one in the house but me. I was in my pajamas, sipping my coffee, watching my favorite morning inspriration, and just enJOYing!!! My daughter would be proud of me 🙂
